The Use of Wattpad Learning Media on Students’ Reading Comprehension Skills

This study investigates the use of Wattpad as a digital learning medium to improve students’ reading comprehension skills. The research was motivated by the low reading interest and comprehension ability among Indonesian high school students. The objective of this research is to analyze whether the integration of Wattpad can enhance students’ literal, inferential, and evaluative comprehension when reading English narrative texts. The study employed a qualitative approach with a constructivist Grounded Theory design. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and pre-test and post-test instruments conducted on eleventh-grade students of An Nur Islamic High School, Bekasi. This experimental research divided the students into an experimental group and a control group to examine the effectiveness of Wattpad compared to conventional teaching methods. The findings reveal a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension after using Wattpad. In addition, students reported increased motivation and engagement due to Wattpad’s interactive features, relatable content, and accessibility through digital devices. This research contributes theoretically by expanding digital literacy discourse in English language education and practically by offering an alternative medium that aligns with Generation Z’s learning habits
